On the territory of Serbia grape cultivation dates back to the Roman Empire. Over the centuries there have been ups and downs
in the production, and during the time of phylloxera,
it is well known that the wines from Serbia were exported to France
due to the fact that certain wine-growing regions were not affected by this disease.

After the Second World War, during communism, there has been a degradation of Serbian wine making, since at that time the
idea was that the wine should be
accessible to everyone so the quantity was priority over quality.
Many vineyards were nationalized and managed by government. After a turbulent and civil war period of the nineties of the last century, Serbian wine making is finally coming to a slight but safe recovery. The result is that today slowly but surely Serbian wines are gaining on importance in the Balkans, and hopefully it will in the future around the world thanks to the scores that Serbian wines are receiving currently from eminent connoisseurs of wine and specialized competitions such as DWWA, IWC, AWC Vienna, etc...
